Stained Glass Celtic Quilt, August 09
Location: Elizabeth’s
Pattern: Philomena Weichek’s Celtic Quilt Designs
Queen size
Invisibly machine appliquéd with mono-filament, hand quilted. Matilda’s Own wool Batting.
This is my 3rd Celtic quilt. In the back of my mind for years was the idea of using a hand dye background with black knots. Also, after hand appliqueing the others I was dying to try this machine applique method. I think when all is said and done, I prefer the hand work.
The particular craziness I tried this time was
to notch out the garden maze sashing on the edges. It always bothered me just putting on a straight binding.
I had this quilt on the hoop when I started teaching. Two years later it was still there without 1 additional stitch on it. The first thing I did was to spend several
months finishing the hand quilting, but I couldn’t finish in time for the 2009 Salem Fair.
I just like making a back with a little interest to reward they who look, so this one has a lovely ombré backing with an original knot I designed. Click the quilting shot to get a full size where you can see the quilting.

I have recently obtained a second hand copy of Philomena Weichec Celtic Quilt. Where are the directions for the garden maze setting. Is part of my book missing?
No, you’ve got it all. This book is very weak getting from block to quilt.
